August ‘21: Blax: The Musical opens for a full run at Paris’ Lucernaire théâtre!

Blax: The Musical, for which Michael has been a staple of the creative team as Music Director, Vocal Arranger, Vocal Coach, and Orchestrator for over 10 years, is finally getting a full-scale Parisian run at the historic Théâtre Lucernaire! This soul-funk Blaxploitation musical was created in collaboration with Les Brown Sugar, a staple of Parisian night-life and immersive soul-funk cabaret. Blax had its world-premiere in 2012 at the Théâtre Bobino (under Michael’s direction!) and received a residency for its full re-vamping at the Nouveau Cap in Aulnay-Sous-Bois, France. Now, it is presented in its full form at the Lucernaire, an historic theatre which launched many theatrical and cinematographic artists.

August ‘21: Michael creates new musical, Kampfire stories, with kids!

Michael collaborated with the youth of the Greater Gloversville Area in Gloversville, NY as well as the Glove Theatre Board to create, compose, direct, and choreograph a new musical with the kids of the area. Kampfire Stories is based on several popular campfire horror stories conceived and written by the kids and with original music, choreography, and direction by Michael. He hopes to continue his collaboration with the Glove Theatre Board to aid in the restoration and re-opening of this historic theatre!

February ‘21: michael is cast in “three pianos” at florida studio theatre

Michael returns to Florida Studio Theatre as castmember in the three-hander cabaret, “Three Pianos”. This Classic Rock review, which will call upon Michael’s skills as singer, actor, and pianist, will play at FST’s Gompertz Theatre from April 2nd through April 25th, 2021, with possible extension through May 23, 2021. january ‘21: michael’s original composition to be ending theme to international movie

Michael’s original composition, “My Little Baby”, will be the ending theme to L’Audition, a French-language dystopian film by friend and cinéaste, Maud Stievenard. Michael’s song is performed by international performer and former contestant on BBC’s “Over the Rainbow”, Camille Mesnard.

January ‘20: Michael and Who loves you at the iridium jazz club

Michael and the boys from Who Loves You?: The Music of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons…and Beyond! will take the stage at Iridium Jazz Club on January 13th as part of the 2020-21 APAP conference. january ‘20: Michael to reprise role of Mr. Trash in “Paradise Market”

Michael will reprise his role as “Mr. Trash” in the new modern opera/musical Paradise Market, with music by multi-award winning international composer, Patrice Peyriéras and Book/Lyrics by Peyriéras and Gilles Lombard. november ‘19: michael and “who Loves You” at the Suffolk Theatre

Who Loves You?: The Music of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons…and Beyond! played a sold-out return engagement at the Suffolk Theatre in Long Island. Hot off of their sold-out, double-extended Florida run, the boys of the bandstand sang for a crowd of over 250 people. Future dates announced.

November ‘19: Michael as musical director/Vocal Arranger for Blax: The Musical

Michael rejoined The Brown Sugar in their new version of Blax: The Musical at Le Nouveau Cap Théâtre in Aulnay-Sous-Bois, France. Blax…, featuring book and direction by Simon LeBlond and featuring Rachel Gardner-Smith, Orlando Luis, Eric Vincent, and Mirella Toussaint, had its workshop performance November 9th to a standing ovation. Michael will reprise his role as vocal arranger and musical director during the next iteration of this exciting musical. Stay tuned for more information and updates!

june ‘19:
michael to perform in multidisciplinary artist emilee Lord’s “A List”

Michael will perform as “The Professor” in choreographer and visual artist Emilee Lord’s (Vexations) newest creation, A List: In Three Parts as part of Movement 2019: SYZYGY at the Hudson Guild Theater. This experimental dance piece puts Michael in a Beckettean sort of role alongside stunning dancers embodying Ms. Lord’s singular choreographic style and can be viewed here.

michael signs on to “God of Marz” at Barrow Group

Michael will hop backstage with the team of God of Marz at the Barrow Group Theatre as Production Assistant, ASM, and Front of House Manager. This wacky production created by Rachel Shaw, directed by Michael’s dear friend and collaborator, Glenn Giron, and stage managed by dear friend and collaborator, Kaitie Fann, will be a intergalactic good time!

The new musical, Time it Is: To Music, with music and lyrics by Michael, will have its world premier at Theater For the New City April 4th through 28th. The production is also produced, musically directed, and conducted by Michael. Stay tuned for more updates!

Michael continues training under Andrew Stewart-Jones

In continuing his studies, Michael will again undertake on-camera training with actor and educator, Andrew Stewart-Jones (Gotham, When They See Us, Shades of Blue). He feels very privileged to be a part of such an intensive class and is excited to show you his skills on camera!

Michael is a rising star finalist!

Michael, along with Tony Tillman and Sara Gordon, will be participating in the Rising Star 5 Finals, Tuesday, October 2nd at NYC’s Rise Bar. Michael will be presenting a mini-set of 3 songs in hopes of winning the grand prize of $1000 cash and a fully-produced show at Rise Bar! Come and support him this Tuesday from 10.30p to late! (Michael placed a close second in this competition! Thank you to all who came out to support him!)

september ‘18:
Who loves you plays 2 sold-out shows!

Michael and his fellow brothers in song played two sold out shows this past weekend at the PNC Bank Arts Center in Holmdel, NJ (13,000 spectators!) and at the Suffolk Theatre in Riverhead, NY. Who Loves You premiered their new show, NY vs. NJ: The Battle of the Doo-Wops! at the Suffolk Theatre to audience acclaim!

Michael is judges’ pick 2 weeks running!

Michael is still going strong in Rise Bar’s Rising Star 5 vocal competition. He was judges’ pick two times successively for both Broadway Week (“Only Love”) and 90’s Week (“Virtual Insanity”). Michael was also judges’ pick and audience favorite for Freestyle Week 2, winning praises for his cover of "Barracuda” by Heart.

AUGUST '18:
Successful run of Still Can’t Trust No one.

Michael and Dreams Come True Productions played to a sold-out house at the historic National Black Theatre of Harlem. The crowd had a blast, and the comedic play succeeded in its goal of uniting theatregoers from diverse cultural backgrounds for a night of comedy, ribaldry, and style!

Michael has been selected to compete in "Rising Star 5" @ Rise Bar, Hell's Kitchen!

Michael has been selected as a contestant in the NYC Singing Competition, Rising Star 5 at NYC's Rise Bar.  First prize is $1000 and a solo show at Rise Bar!  Rising Star 5 begins this Tuesday, July 31st at 10.30p, and continues for 10 weeks.  Come and support Michael!

Michael will take part in new musicals workshop

Michael will be working with casting director, Jamibeth Margolis, and music director, Andrew Wheeler, in their New Musical Works Workshop.  The workshop will help writers/composers/lyricists of new musical works to refine and test out their pieces, and will culminate in a presentation in front of agents and industry professionals.

Michael has been accepted into the highly sought after on-camera workshop, lead by actor and coach Andrew Stewart-Jones (Gotham, Beauty and the Beast, Shades of Blue). He is very excited to continue his training under such a wonderful pedagogue.

Michael will be performing with Sharon Klein Productions' Who Loves You on July 21st and 24th 2018.  The performances will be held in Long Island and New Jersey.  More information to follow!

MAY '18:
michael has been cast as Tyrone in of "Still Can't Trust No One".

Michael will perform in Dreams Come True Productions'  Still Can't Trust No One, the second part of the Trust No One play series, which follows roommates, Tyrone and Gina, as they run from cannibals, the law, and crazy exes galore.  This comedy-thriller-with-music will play two performances at Harlem's National Black Theatre on August 25th, 2018.

MICHAEL HAS BEEN CAST AS "GINO" IN "CYBERBABIES: A MUSICAL DOT COMEDY" AT THEATRE FOR THE NEW CITY.

MICHAEL HAS BEEN CAST IN SHARON KLEIN PRODUCTIONS' "WHO LOVES YOU?: THE MUSIC OF FRANKIE VALLI"

Michael has been cast in the 1950's/1960's Doo-Wop touring review, Who Loves You?: The Music of Frankie Valli, with Sharon Klein Productions.  The review is directed and musically directed by Michael Thomas Murray, and will have dates in Atlantic City, NJ, and the Poconos, with more to follow.

january '18:
more information on "My Life with Pablo Neruda"

Michael and the Voice Afire ensemble are very excited to begin rehearsals for My Life With Pablo Neruda, a new opera-cabaret, which will play March 10th and 11th, 2018 in NYC.  The production stars Michael as Pablo Neruda and Daniela Benitez as his wife, Mathilde Urrutia, and author of the biography upon which the piece is based.  The production is written, composed, and directed by Raymond Luedeke.

Michael cast in Alex krasser's "Waiting for the g"

Michael was cast in the NYC premiere of playwright Alex Krasser's new work, Waiting for the G.  The production took place on January 15th, 19th, and 21st 2018 as part of NY Winterfest at the Hudson Guild Theatre.
The production was directed by Glenn Girón.

 

October '17:
Michael cast as poet Pablo Neruda in New Opera-Cabaret

Michael has just been cast as Pablo Neruda in Voice Afire's new opera-cabaret, My Life With Pablo Neruda.  Employing Neruda's inimitable poetry, dramatic scenes, and a varied score by composer/librettist Raymond Luedeke, ...Neruda will be presented on March 10th and 11th, 2018, in New York City.
